We’re gathering the think tank in Flashbang. The first impression from people who’ve arrived at the station are:

- there’s no sense you’ve arrived in a coastal place

- the waymarkers to the beach are inconsistent

- the route to the town meanders through residential streets so you feel lost

The sense of light and space are the first clues that there is a seafront; flint walls are distinctive; the smell of the sea hits you a few minutes from the station.

If you navigate through Teville Gate’s derelict space, there is no clear direction to the seafront and there are a range of different signs.

The pop-up tourist information centre is  well designed, welcoming and the staff are very good.

Worthing’s big, grand civic buildings dwarf the small shops and independents.

Ideas include:

- follow coloured lamposts from station to sea

- non-text banners and visual signage

- have seagull cut-outs on lamposts
